Kurti in Vienna: 'perspective in the EU' is not enough, an accelerated process is needed

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, said on Thursday that the Western Balkans needs an accelerated process to join the European Union.

Kurti spoke at the Summit of Social Democrats for the Western Balkans, which is being held in Vienna, Austria.

The head of the executive of Kosovo congratulated the EU that at the Tirana Summit reconfirmed its commitment to the membership of the Western Balkans.

"We need an accelerated process for EU membership, 'perspective in the EU' is not enough." It is difficult to mobilize people if there are no clear deadlines towards membership", he said.

Kurti emphasized that there should be more ambition for EU membership.

"Now is the time to speed up the expansion process, with more initiatives and investments in the region that benefit the people," Kurti added.

The Prime Minister of Kosovo is being accompanied to the Austrian capital by the mayor of Gjilan, once a co-party member of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Alban Hyseni.
