Dehari case, the MD suspends the chief inspector Ylber Topalli

The Ministry of Justice has announced on Wednesday that it has suspended the chief inspector of the Kosovo Inspectorate, Ylber Topalli, in connection with the death of Astri Dehari in the Detention Center in Prizren in 2016.

The MoD has said that the decision to suspend was made based on the findings of the Inspectorate Report of this Ministry. The ministry headed by Albulena Haxhiu claims that Topalli committed serious procedural violations in the Dehari case.

"The disciplinary procedure against Topalli has been initiated for allegations of serious procedural violations that are related to the incident of Astri Dehari, who died in the Detention Center in Prizren, on November 5, 2016," the announcement states.

The MoD has called for the need to continue the investigative procedures for the further treatment of all circumstances until the final elucidation of this case.

The activist of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Astrit Dehari, was found dead in a prison cell in Prizren on November 5, 2016, where he was being held under suspicion of having attacked the Kosovo Assembly building, together with several other activists.

While the Prosecutor's Office said at the time that it was suicide, the family continued to insist that it was murder.
