33 candidates for the Ferizaj Municipal Assembly requested on Monday from the CEC to recount the votes from the 2025 local elections. During the request, they were informed that the ballots had already been destroyed, but one of them raised doubts about this.

33 candidates for assembly in the Municipality of Ferizaj in last year's local elections are requesting a recount of ballots that no longer exist.

Independent candidate Bashkim Fazliu, on behalf of this group, submitted the request to the Central Election Commission on Monday, where he was also notified of the destruction of these ballots.

"This is a request to take extraordinary verification measures, after new evidence of abuses and manipulations that occurred on December 28 came to light. Before I started, I researched the CEC website, you should also research the CEC website, I have not seen any announcement from the CEC anywhere that the ballots have been destroyed. I heard that they have now been destroyed, but if you find a link that they have been destroyed," said Fazliu.

The CEC has said that the destruction of election materials for the 2025 local elections was done within the legal deadline.

"Polling station materials, which the State Prosecutor's Office and the courts are handling, have been excluded from this process. Also, as required by law, the CEC has certified the results of the 2025 Local Elections, after the completion of all procedures at polling stations and counting centers, as well as after the decision by the ECAP and the Supreme Court on the complaints of candidates and subjects," said CEC spokesperson Valmir Elezi.

But independent candidate Fazliu insists that a recount of votes should be held and that the certification of the local elections should be canceled.

"We have asked the CEC to take extraordinary verification measures, then one of our requests is a recount of the votes, and if the result is not the same then we have requested that the certification be canceled," said Fazliu.

Fazliu also said that during the day, a request was submitted to the Basic Prosecution Office of Ferizaj, for the expansion of investigations and extraordinary verification measures regarding the electoral process, including the possibility of a recount of votes in the local elections.

The initiative of this group from Ferizaj was undertaken after the discovery of vote manipulation by candidates for deputies in the early parliamentary elections held on December 28.
