The LGBTI community demands equal treatment from the state and the family

This elderly lady may not even have any idea what the purpose of this march through the capital is.

However, she enjoyed the music and danced with others during the Pride Parade, which is organized in support of the LGBTI community.

Many people marched at noon on Thursday from the "Skënderbeu" square to the "Mother Teresa" cathedral, to finish at the platform of the Palace of Youth, where a concert was held.

This year, only Shemsije Qerkini gave a speech, who said that she is proud to be the mother of a son who belongs to this community, as she demanded equal treatment from the state and the family.

"I stand before you today as a proud mother of a 'gay' son. Every child, girl or boy, every child's comfort is more valuable than anything else in the world. I am very proud of my son and his sexuality. I am also proud of every other LGBTI person, for the acceptance they have for every other person", said Qerkini.

"Now that we have understood that the LGBTI community is always on the last list of priorities of the state of Kosovo, this time too we were disappointed with the decisions they wanted to make regarding the Civil Code", added Lend Mustafa , organizer.

This march was joined by deputies, foreign ambassadors, members of civil society and the mayor of the capital, but not the president of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, and Prime Minister Albin Kurti.

"The Kosovo Police has been involved in almost all activities and so far we have not had any problems, except for a small incident that happened at Hotel Grandi, where a pyrotechnic device was fired, but there was nothing serious" , said Samedin Mehmeti, director of the Police.

Pride Week is an event in which, through the celebration, a call is made for the acceptance of homosexual, bisexual, transgender and other people in society.
