Today marks 30 years since the release from prison of the activity of Adem Demaçi. At that time, he was received magnificently by thousands of citizens.
After being released, Demaç immediately continued his political activity. He was arrested and convicted three times, serving 28 consecutive years in Yugoslavian prisons.
On April 21, 1990, Adem Demaçi and many friends from Croatian prisons were released. In the first interview after his release from prison, which he gave to Slovenian television, without expressing any hatred or vengeful anger, Ademi tried to open paths and paths for finding acceptable and favorable solutions for all those who not only words but also deeds were for freedom and equality in the Balkans.
During 1975, in Kosovo, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vojvodina, among Albanians from Macedonia and Montenegro, there were many arbitrary imprisonments and many court proceedings were mounted against people whom the Serbian secret police considered dangerous and carriers of disintegrating forces of Yugoslavia. With this purpose, on October 6, 1975, Adem Demaçi was imprisoned in Pristina for the third time.
In the rigged process, after cruel investigations, Adem Demaçi, Rexhep Mala (deceased), Skënder Kastrati and 16 others were convicted, with false witnesses and mercilessly. The sentences were cut from 15 to 5 years.

Although completely innocent, Adem Demaçi, did not give up his idea that Albanians have the right to be free and equal with all the other peoples of the Balkans, and he welcomed the sentence of 15 years to him with a smile.
It was now perfectly clear to him that Yugoslavia had entered the path of its own certain disintegration.
In March 1990, in the infamous casemate of Stara Gradishka, where Adem Demaçi and thirty other Albanians were standing, now fourteen years, for the first time, the police authorities allowed the employees of the International Red Cross to enter.
Then they allowed some journalists to enter. Adem Demaçi told all the journalists with whom he had the opportunity to meet that Slobodan Milosevic, with his own policy, is working for the disintegration of Yugoslavia. Yugoslavia was already gripped by the fever of decomposition.
Demachi tried to make this decomposition happen slowly, peacefully and without bloodshed. From the perspective and circumstances of the time this seemed possible.
