Today marks the 29th anniversary of the Student Movement protests, which are considered one of the biggest historical turning points for Kosovo.

At that time, the regime of Slobodan Milosevic had imposed violent measures against the Albanians and expelled students and professors from the University, imposing a Serbian curriculum for teaching.

The peaceful student protest on October 1, 1997, led by the late rector, Ejup Statovci, Bujar Dugolli, Albin Kurti, Driton Lajçi and Muhamet Mavraj, was violently dispersed.

Serbian police used violence against students and professors to disperse the protest. There were arrested and injured among the protesters.

The country's and international media have given great coverage to this event, almost more than any political development in Kosovo that happened in the pre-protest period.

The event is considered one of the most important of the Student Movement and it influenced the international factoring in the Kosovo issue.
