There are still 15 days left until the deadline. constitutional process for electing a new president, but there is no sign from the political scene so far that consensus can be reached on this issue.
The opposition has accused Prime Minister Albin Kurti of not being interested in a solution and that he will send the country to elections. On the other hand, the government has consistently stated that a solution must be reached and another electoral process avoided.
Currently, the coalition built by Vetëvendosje has 66 MPs, PDK 22, LDK 15, and AAK six.
To elect the president, 80 votes are needed in the first two rounds. The two Vetëvendosje candidates are in the race, and in the March 5 session, they failed to secure even the quorum to start voting.
A meeting between Abdixhiku and Kurti took place last Monday, but without agreement. PDK has requested that a possible Kurti-Hamza meeting be officially invited by letter, while Abdixhiku has announced that he has already met with Hamza.
Prime Minister Kurti has not, so far, invited AAK leader Ramush Haradinaj to a meeting.
Analyst Afrim Kasolli told Koha on Sunday that the parties have entered a cycle of excuses, aiming to create the perception that they do not bear responsibility for the president's failure to be elected.
"The Democratic League suffered greatly in the December 28 elections. Therefore, this traumatic experience seems to be conditioning Lumir Abdixhiku's political actions so that he appears in public opinion as the leader who is least guilty of the inability of other entities to give the country a new president," said Kasolli.
Analyst Arbnor Sadiku says that responsibility for the failure falls on Vetëvendosje. However, he has stated that a new round of elections would suit LDK.

He stressed that a union between former President Vjosa Osmani and Abdixhiku under a competing entity would challenge Kurti's Vetëvendosje.
"We would have one bloc led by Mr. Abdixhiku and Vjosa Osmani and the other bloc by Mr. Kurti and other parties such as the Democratic Party and the Alliance, and we would have a pretty strong electoral race," he declared.
The Constitutional Court has set a deadline of April 28 for the election of the president. Otherwise, the country will go to elections that must be held within 45 days.
