Residents of the "Kodra e Trimave" neighborhood, in trouble with waste dumps

The waste situation has been the same for years.

Residents of the "Kodra e Trimave" neighborhood know this area as "Te bazeni", but it's just not cool.

The amount of waste here is overwhelming, especially now in the summer season.

Besart Krasniqi, who is a resident of this neighborhood and a councilor for the LVV, says that he has made many requests to the municipality for the removal of the landfill, but that the residents' requests have fallen on deaf ears in the municipality.

"We are in the 'Kodra e Trimave' neighborhood, precisely on 'Nexhmi Llumnica' street, this part we call 'Te bazeni' is in very bad condition. I have been making continuous requests for three years both in the municipal assembly and I have also sent requests by email to the address of municipal officials and the mayor of the municipality, Përparim Rama. So far, they have never taken any steps to remove this landfill in our neighborhood. In addition, we have other landfills in our neighborhood. Even at the "Asim Vokshi" school and it is very close to the school. There are also other landfills in the center and the municipality is turning a blind eye," said Krasniqi.

Krasniqi raises the alarm that the large amount of garbage could cause a disease to break out.

"It is very dangerous to live here, as you can see, there are houses and people living here. There is a risk that an epidemic of diseases will break out due to the cleanliness. Now we have warm weather and there are all kinds of materials and compounds. Here, with a small symbolic action, the municipality can remove these landfills, a part of which is very important for our neighborhood. It would be nice to have a playground," he said.

Mayor Rama was in this area at the beginning of his mandate and promised residents the removal of the landfill.

"Mayor Rama was here and promised me that within a month the waste would be removed from these areas. But now it has been 4 years and there is no result of the promise. The elections are in October and as can be seen, the municipality and the mayor have no will to remove the waste. I hope and wish that the same person will no longer be the mayor of Pristina in the October elections," he added.

Krasniqi proposes that the municipality also install monitoring cameras and fine people who intentionally litter.

"Of course, the residents themselves are partly to blame for throwing waste here. But this is precisely the reason why I have called on the municipality to punish or fine people who throw waste here, that is, in a place that is not intended. We do not  "We can suffer all the consequences of some individuals who throw garbage everywhere. But still the burden of blame remains with the municipality, which should install some monitoring camera or something like that to minimize the phenomenon," he said.

Residents have previously complained about the municipality's neglect of their neighborhood.
